from october 27th to 30th, 2023, the 9th national applied geochemistry conference, organized by the china mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry society and hosted by chengdu university of technology, took place in chengdu. the conference, held biennially, aims to provide a platform for researchers and geologists nationwide to share knowledge, inspire innovation, and foster active communication by applying geochemical principles and methods to various fields in earth science. it is a significant event in the field of applied geochemistry in china. the focus of this conference was on academic exchanges related to the geochemical exploration of strategic mineral resources, geochemical surveys and assessments in the fields of environment, ecology, agriculture, and health, geochemical responses to geological disasters, and innovative research in geochemical methods. over 300 representatives from more than 70 universities, research institutes, and geological exploration units across the country participated in this conference.

associate professor li xingyuan and four graduate students from our college were invited to attend the conference. during a special session, professor li xingyuan delivered an invited presentation on "the geochemical tracing effects of trace elements and their resource-environmental impacts - a study based on typical cases," introducing the interdisciplinary achievements of our climate change and ecological response innovation research team in the field of applied geochemistry. master's student zhu ying presented a report titled "geochemical characteristics of heavy metals in soils of farmland surrounding the wobei coal mine and their impact on human health risk assessment," which garnered attention from peers. the participation of our faculty and students showcased the distinctive research features and high academic standards of our college in the field of applied geochemistry, contributing to the enhanced academic influence of our college in this domain.
