from october 13 to 15, 2023, the annual meeting of the paleobotanical division of the chinese paleontological society was held in xi'an, co-hosted by chang'an university and the nanjing institute of geology and paleontology, chinese academy of sciences, with the support of xi'an shiyou university. the meeting, themed "paleobotany in the information age," primarily focused on exploring the applications and developments of paleobotany in the era of modern information technology. it aimed to enhance communication and collaboration in various fields of chinese paleobotany within the context of digitalization. over 200 experts, scholars, and graduate students from universities and research institutions nationwide attended the conference.
during one of the conference sessions, the college of earth and environmental sciences at lanzhou university, as one of the participating units, featured special presentations under the guidance and leadership of associate professor suting ding. master's students yu jiang delivered a presentation titled "fossil records of cycads and ginkgos in the middle jurassic of hua county, gansu, and the reconstruction of ancient atmospheric co2 concentrations," while ruiqi lou presented "fossil records of the shield-leaf vine genus in the early pliocene of tengchong, yunnan, and their paleogeographical significance." these research findings were highly acclaimed by their peers.
throughout the conference, participants attended numerous academic lectures and engaged in in-depth discussions with various experts and scholars. this event provided an expanded perspective for their future research endeavors.
