release time:2022-10-09 15:15:46

on september 29th, 2022, the college of earth and environmental sciences of lanzhou university held the first academic lecture of the yuxiu resource and environment youth forum. at the invitation of professor gou xiaohua and professor wang xuejia from the college of earth and environmental sciences of lanzhou university and the key laboratory of the western ministry of education, the renowned august röhss chair professor of physical geography of the university of gothenburg, sweden, and internationally renowned climatologist chen deliang, an academician, gave a lecture entitled "the role of land-atmosphere interactions in temperature changes". the conference was hosted by professor gou xiaohua from the college of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university.

academician chen deliang is a member of the royal swedish academy of sciences, a member of the european academy of sciences and arts, a member of the royal academy of arts and sciences in gothenburg, a member of the academy of sciences for developing countries and a foreign member of the chinese academy of sciences and the norwegian academy of science and letters. he studies past and future regional climate change and its impacts on water, ecosystems, environment and agriculture from an earth system science perspective, currently focusing on climate and environmental change in and around the tibetan plateau (third pole).

land-air interactions involve the complex surface processes of energy and material exchange between the land surface and the atmosphere and have important implications for climate. land surface conditions, including land use, soil moisture and vegetation cover, have a major impact on atmospheric processes at local, regional and global scales by influencing the energy balance and water exchange at the surface. academician chen deliang presented several typical examples of his team's work on the effects of changes in land-atmosphere interactions on surface temperature using climate models, in situ and satellite observations and paleoclimate reconstructions.

the presentation by academician chen deliang was informative, insightful and inspiring, covering the effects of land use change, and the principles of land-air interaction. he explores the role of soil moisture and vegetation change in climate, particularly in extreme climates (heat waves), using a combination of paleoclimate reconstruction, climate modelling, reanalysis of data and analysis of remote sensing data. the study area covers a number of typical global regions, including the tibetan plateau, eurasia and the arctic, and covers the past millennium to contemporary climate and future projections. the report also looks at future research concepts and research interests for scientific research.

at the end of the presentation, academician chen deliang further discussed with the participants on climate modelling, soil moisture trend modelling, the impact of vegetation change on climate, and the interaction between the cryosphere and the atmosphere.
