dr. xu xiang is a lecturer at the school of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university. he earned his ph.d. from the national centre for groundwater research and training at flinders university, australia. his main research interests include the characteristics of percolation water based on hydrogen and oxygen stable isotopes, vegetation water use characteristics, and the response of vegetation to microclimates based on leaf carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes. dr. xu has led one national natural science foundation of china project and two laboratory open fund projects. he has published seven sci journal papers and one textbook. additionally, he serves as a reviewer for the national natural science foundation of china and several high-impact international journals, including water resources research, journal of hydrology, and agricultural and forest meteorology.
