huang kangyou, a professor at the school of earth sciences and engineering at sun yat-sen university, serves as a director of the palynology branch of the china paleontological society and deputy director of the national engineering research center for marine biotechnology in the south china sea. his interdisciplinary research spans earth sciences and life sciences, focusing on quaternary geology, plant geography, paleovegetation, paleoclimatology, environmental archaeology, and the impact of human activities on biodiversity in subtropical south china. he has led over ten projects including national key r&d programs, national natural science foundation of china grants, and international collaboration projects under the belmont forum "mountain science" initiative. he established the modern east asian surface soil pollen database and used fossil pollen data to reconstruct paleoclimate sequences in southwest china since the last glacial maximum, with results recognized as highly cited papers. his innovative method for inferring paleoaltitudes using the east asian surface soil pollen database has been published in top international journals like science, attracting significant attention from scholars worldwide. he has authored over 90 academic papers, primarily in prestigious journals such as science, science bulletin, nature communications, pnas, quaternary science reviews, and catena.
