on october 24 and 31, 2022, at the invitation of professor mou cuicui from the college of earth and environmental science of lanzhou university, professor zhao lin from the school of geographical sciences of nanjing university of information science and technology gave an online lecture on "introduction to cryosphere science" for the 2020 undergraduate students majoring in physical geography and resources and environment of our school.
professor zhao lin comprehensively and in detail explained the formation and development of the cryosphere, including the formation and development conditions of snow, glaciers, frozen soil, sea, river and lake ice, and the evolution of the cryosphere at different scales. at the same time, it tells the scientific spirit of mr. zhou youwu, the pioneer of frozen soil science in china, who adheres to his original intention and pursues excellence.
lecturer profile:
lin zhao, professor, nanjing university of information science and technology, jiangsu province entrepreneurship and innovation talent (2020). he is engaged in the research of permafrost on the qinghai-tibet plateau and its interaction with climate, hydrology and ecosystem, and the main achievements include: 1) the establishment of a method system for high-altitude permafrost investigation and observation, and the construction of a multi-circle comprehensive observation network for permafrost on the qinghai-tibet plateau; 2) the comprehensive permafrost observation dataset of the qinghai-tibet plateau and the distribution, temperature, thickness and underground ice distribution of permafrost on the qinghai-tibet plateau, as well as the spatial distribution data of soil and vegetation in the permafrost area, quantified the changes of permafrost temperature, active layer thickness and underground ice reserves in the past 30 years, and deepened the scientific understanding of the co-evolution law of the ecological environment and permafrost on the qinghai-tibet plateau; 3) the hydrothermal coupling law during the freeze-thaw process of permafrost activities on the qinghai-tibet plateau was proposed, a permafrost model considering freeze-thaw process, underground ice thawing and surface deformation was developed, and the simulation ability of the land surface process model on the permafrost of the qinghai-tibet plateau was improved. 4) the vertical distribution, seasonal changes, and historical changes of soil organic carbon, total nitrogen, soil nutrients, and their measurement ratios in the permafrost area of the qinghai-tibet plateau were identified, the reserves of soil organic carbon and total nitrogen were evaluated, and the changes of soil organic carbon and the source-sink effect of soil organic carbon in permafrost under the background of climate change were estimated. he has published nearly 200 sci papers, authored 2 monographs, and participated in the compilation of more than 10 monographs in chinese and english; invited as a contributing author to participate in the preparation of the fourth and fifth reports of ipcc working group i; he was invited to participate in the preparation of the china climate change bulletin, the china climate change blue book and the state of the climate (12 times, published annually in bams), and the monitoring and research results are the only evidence representing permafrost changes in china. invited to give a special report at the 9th international congress of permafrost (usa); he has been invited to give group reports at international academic conferences in related fields for many times. he has participated in many national assessment reports on climate change and ecological barrier construction on the qinghai-tibet plateau. he served as the 6th and 7th standing director of the china qinghai-tibet plateau research association (2015-2025), the standing director of the chinese society of cryosphere science (2016), and the china liaison of the permafrost temperature monitoring network (gtn-p) of the international permafrost association.
