from april 21 to 23, the 7th asian dendro-conference and chinese dendro-conference was organized by the faculty of geographic sciences and the state key laboratory of earth surface processes and resource ecology (zhuhai base), beijing normal university. the theme of the conference is "land-sea interaction and environmental issues", and there are eight topics: "climate-growth relations and past climate reconstruction", "ecological process and dynamic based on tree rings" "isotope geochemistry based on tree rings " "physiological and anatomical features" "tropical and subtropical forests" "large-scale comprehensive research on climate change" "tree rings and the environment problem" "tree rings and shrub growth".

more than 30 teachers and students from the tree ring team of the college of earth and environmental sciences attended the online meeting in room 501 of qilian hall.

at the opening ceremony of the conference, academician chen fahu, distinguished professor of our university and president of the geographical society of china, delivered an opening speech, which opened the curtain of the conference. professor gou xiaohua, dean of the college of earth and environmental sciences and executive director of the geographical society of china, attended the meeting and hosted the invited report.

professor edward r. cook of columbia university, usa, presented a report entitled "going back to tree-ring standardization: maybe schulman's approach is right", focusing on the method of removing anthropogenic signals from tree-ring chronology sequences. professor steven w. leavitt of the university of arizona gave a presentation entitled "historical perspectives on tree-ring isotopes", which reviewed the development of tree-ring isotope research. professor jodi n. axelson from the university of british columbia, canada, presented a presentation entitled "perspectives on dendrology", introducing the application of dendrology in forest management. professor gou xiaohua organized an online communication and discussed with the speakers on relevant issues.

there were 108 reports from 52 research institutions and universities in 12 countries. among them, professor wei liang from the college of earth and environmental sciences presented a paper entitled "process-based modeling of stable isotopes and width of tree rings and its potential in climate reconstruction". associate professor gao linlin gave a special report entitled "study on runoff change and climate impact of the bailong river in recent 300 years". ph.d. wang fang presented a report entitled "seasonal variations of leaf horizontal photosynthesis and water use efficiency of three conifer species with different stomatal behaviors on the tibetan plateau". ph.d. liu lanya made a report entitled "the effects of warming on radial growth of qinghai spruce in the eastern qilian mountains".

during the conference, the participants listened to a number of academic reports and had in-depth exchanges with many experts and scholars, which provided a broader vision for future research.
