at the invitation of huang tao, an associate professor of college of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university and key laboratory for environmental pollution prediction and control, dr. chen huan from clemson university came to lanzhou university for academic communication on january 9, 2020. dr. chen gave an academic report entitled "bond-approach to water and land resources protection on the background of climate change and population growth" in lecture room 1009, guanyun building.
in this report, with the pointcut of the significance of water and soil resources protection for global sustainable development and the core of revealing the close relationship between water and soil, dr. chen deeply explained the bond-relationship mechanism between water-soil and waste in the perspective of holism. three examples including the migration and transformation of dissolved organic pollutants in the atmosphere-vegetation-soil-drinking water during precipitation, water pollution effects caused by forest fires under the background of global climate change, and the use of toxic organics during shale gas extraction and the risk of groundwater and air pollution caused by high-pressure water injection were provided to explain. he also introduced two methods adopted in the management of forest-fire in american: planned fire disaster and burning under control, which provided a new perspective for china's policy and management of sustainable development.
after this report, dr. chen had a communication with the teachers and students present, focusing on the sampling and preservation of organic pollutants in a long-distance waterbody, the seasonal changes of drinking water sources and the corresponding response, and the application of big data technology in the analysis of environmental problems.
