american geophysical union (agu) fall meeting 2019 was held on december 9-13 at the moscone center in san francisco, ca, usa. a group of 15 teachers and students from the college of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university attended the academic event.
academician chen fahu, professor dong guanghui, professor chen jianhui, from lanzhou university, and hou juyi (lead convener) of institute of tibetan plateau research, cas, convened a branch venue named "environmental change and civilization evolution along the ancient silk road and the hindu kush-himalaya", with the theme of "global environmental change", attracted scholars from various countries to participate in the academic exchange. during the meeting, all members of the team make a presentation of their research by various patterns. the content of the presentation covering environmental archaeology, cryosphere changes, forest growth models, climate change in central asia, climate change on the tibetan plateau, history of tectonic evolution of the qilian mountains, and history of wind and sand activities in xinjiang.
the agu is the prominent international academic organization in the field of geosciences and space science, and currently has more than 60,000 members in 173 countries and regions around the world. the year 2019 is the 100th foundation anniversary of the agu. a total of more than 20,000 scholars from all over the world participated in this autumn meeting, showing the latest research results in the fields including geography, geology, environmental science, atmospheric science, hydrology and water resources, and space science.
