on oct 18th, 2019, the 14th korea-china-japan joint conference on geography was held at okayama university, located in okayama, japan and it lasted 5 days. professor yang yongchun, from the college of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university, participated in this conference.
the korea-china-japan joint conference was launched in 2006. since then, the conference has been held every year and the geographical societies of the three countries sponsored it together and organized it by turn. the theme of the conference this year is “learning past asia, creating future asia”, the meaning of which is to discuss the key issues for the future development of asia based on the regionalization trend in the background of globalization. in addition to geographers from china, japan and korea, some scholars from european and america were also invited. during the conference, scholars had full communication on different geographical topics including "economic geography", "social development", "history", "city", "culture", "policy", "environment", "gis/rs", "agriculture", and "climate change".
prof. yang made an academic report entitled “adaptation differences ofcontemporary chinese tibetan culture——taking shigatse city as an example” in the session of “city v: culture and society”. in this report, he explained the adaptability of tibetan culture to chinese social modernization and its differentiation since the chinese economic reform. on oct 21st, prof. yang also participated in the field investigation organized by the organizing committee of the conference to visit the rural revitalization case of “tourism village” and the green urban development case of “cultural tourism town”. prof. yang participation in the conference has significant meaning not only for the foreigners to have a better understanding of the human geography research of inland cities in the west of china but also for advertising the development of human geography in lanzhou university.
