lin dantong, a research associate in the hydrology department of the college of earth and environmental sciences at lanzhou university, focuses on research related to soil water and groundwater movement. lin obtained a bachelor of engineering degree from tsinghua university in 2016 and a ph.d. in civil engineering from tsinghua university in 2021, under the supervision of professor hu liming. in 2021, lin joined the postdoctoral workstation in the department of hydraulic engineering at tsinghua university and was selected for the "shuimu scholar" program at tsinghua university. in 2023, lin was chosen for the first "young talent support project" of the china society for hydropower engineering and joined the college of earth and environmental sciences at lanzhou university in august 2023. lin leads one project funded by the national natural science foundation of china for young scientists and one youth project funded by the beijing natural science foundation, in addition to two open laboratory funds. lin has published over 20 academic papers, including more than ten as the first author in prestigious journals like "rock and soil mechanics," "environmental science & technology," and "water resources research," and holds one national invention patent and three software 凯发k8官方旗舰厅 copyrights. lin has presented oral reports at top international academic conferences such as the international conference on soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering (icsmge) and the american geophysical union (agu) annual meeting, serving as a youth forum speaker for the journal of geotechnical engineering on environmental geotechnical engineering topics. during lin's doctoral studies, lin visited the hong kong university of science and technology and the salinity lab of the u.s. department of agriculture for exchange and collaboration.

during my doctoral studies, i had the privilege of participating in various projects and conducting cooperative research overseas, which significantly contributed to my personal growth. in this report, i will share my experiences of international exchange in hong kong and the united states, along with my reflections and feelings about life as a doctoral research student.
