at the invitation of professor gou xiaohua and professor wei liang from the key laboratory of western china’s environmental systems (ministry of education), college of earth and environmental sciences, lanzhou university, professor zou songbing, tian lei, bai yan, chen ning and wei liang will give special reports about ecological hydrology. welcome!

time: 14:30-17:00, november 1st, 2020

site: lecture room 502, qilian building, lanzhou university

title 1: integrated study on the eco-hydrological process in heihe basin

lecturer 1: zou songbing

lecturer profile:

zou songbing, a professor of the college of earth and environmental science, lanzhou university, mainly researches geographic information science and eco-hydrology. he studied at lanzhou university from 1999 and got his phd in the year of 2006. then he continued his post-doctoral research at the stage key laboratory of frozen soil engineering, cas from 2006 to 2009. he worked at the laboratory of western soil and water, cas from 2006 to 2020. besides, from 2016 to 2017, he did collaborative research at lawrence berkeley national laboratory of the us department of energy. so far he has presided over 1 postdoctoral fund, 3 national natural science foundation of china, and 8 other projects.

title 2: research on regional hydrological and climate effects of large-scale vegetation construction on the loess plateau

lecturer 2: tian lei

lecturer profile:

dr. tian, a young researcher working at the institute of yellow river basin green development and the college of earth and environmental science, lanzhou university, graduated from northwest agriculture and forestry university. he once cooperated with jiming jin and guoyue niu (university of arizona) at utah state university. also, he participated in the project of the land-atmosphere coupled model development launched by nasa as one of the backbone members and take charge of the development of the vegetation model dynamic root system in the regional land-atmosphere coupled model wrf-noahmp. his research directions include downscaling of the global climate model, simulation and forecasting of regional climate numerical value, simulation research of regional climate and land surface interaction, and simulation of basin hydrological process based on distributed hydrological models.

title 3: prediction of vegetation response in arid areas under the background of climate change

lecturer 3: bai yan

lecturer profile:

dr. bai is a young researcher from the college of atmospheric sciences, lanzhou university. he got his bachelor and master’s degrees from renmin university of china (majoring in engineering management) and lanzhou university (majoring in physical geography), respectively. the phd was awarded by beijing normal university in 2020. from 2018 to 2019, he went to university of california, berkeley, and lawrence berkeley national laboratory for exchange visits. he mainly engaged in the research of ecological hydrology, vegetation hydraulic process, vegetation drought response and model data fusion. at the same time, he was a reviewer of agric. for. meteorol., ecohydrology, etc.

title 4: study on eco-hydrological effects of biological soil crust

lecturer 4: chen ning

lecturer profile:

dr. chen, whose undergraduate degree, master's degree and doctoral degree from china agricultural university, northwest institute of eco-environmental and resources, chinese academy of sciences, and lanzhou university, respectively, does his research in the field of ecosystem ecology and ecohydrology of arid and semi-arid areas and explore the ecological hydrological effects of biological soil crusts and system balance behaviour by combining ecological hydrological models, date long-term observation and field control experiments. the corresponding results are published in science advances, american naturalist, journal of hydrology, plant & soil and other academic journals.

title 5: changes in the water balance in the decades after the demise of a forest ecosystem

lecturer 5: wei liang

lecturer profile:

professor wei liang, bachelor and master of ecology of lanzhou university, doctor of natural resources from university of idaho, usa, served as postdoctoral fellows in university of idaho, university of missouri, and los alamos national laboratory. after returning to china in 2019, he has been a cuiying specially appointed professor at the college of earth and environmental science, lanzhou university until now. his main researches include using carbon isotopes to improve the quality of forest simulation, the death of forests caused by drought, the relationship between tolerance to shade and drought of plant and functional traits of plant, improving the forest model 3-pg and testing and developing the new generation of vegetation model fates.
