lecturer profile

professor zhao baojin was born in 1955. he got his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from chengdu university of technology, jinshan university, south africa, and auckland university, new zealand respectively. he is currently a professor in the department of environmental sciences at the university of south africa and a geology and mine environmentalist of south africa in the belt and road initiative project of china university of geosciences (beijing). he was a professor, head of the department, and dean of the faculty of science at fort hare university in south africa, visiting professor of the department of geology, yale university, visiting professor of china university of mining and technology, visiting professor of chengdu university of technology, researcher of camec center, department of geology, jinshan university, senior geologist of gold fields company and harmony gold mine company, chief senior geochemical expert of phd environmental engineering company, senior geological consultant and executive of the world's first engineering consulting company (worleyparsons). he is now a fellow of the society of economic geologists (senior member), a fellow of the south african geological society, a council member, a member of the royal south african academy of sciences, a registered scientist in south africa, an overseas review expert for chinese yangtze river scholars, and the president of the southern african association of experts, scholars and engineers (cposa). he has published nearly 70 scientific papers and monographs. as the head of scientific research projects and south africa's national key projects, he has completed a number of research projects of the south african national research foundation (nrf) and the south african water research council (wrc).
