professor zhao baojin received his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees from chengdu university of technology, jinshan university, south africa, and auckland university, new zealand, respectively. he is currently a professor in the department of environmental science at the university of south africa, and a south african geological and mining environmentalist working for the belt and road initiative at china university of geosciences (beijing). he was the dean of the department of geology and the faculty of science, fort hare university, south africa, a visiting professor of the department of geology at yale university, china university of mining and technology and chengdu university of technology. he also was a researcher at camec center of jinshan university (gold fields), a senior geologist at harmony gold mining company, a chief senior geochemical expert at phd environmental engineering and a senior geological consultant and executive at a well-known engineering consulting company (worley parsons).
now he is a fellow of the society of economic geologists (senior member), a director of the south african geological society, a member of the royal south african academy of sciences, a registered scientist in south africa, an expert in overseas on the assessment of chinese yangtze river scholars, and the president of the chinese professionals organization in south africa (cposa). he had published nearly 70 scientific papers and monographs. as the head of scientific research projects and national key projects in south africa, he has completed a number of research projects for the south african national research foundation (nrf) and south africa water research council (wrc).
