our college now offers six majors for undergraduates, including natural geography and resource environment (national feature major), human geography and urban and rural planning, geographic information science, environmental science, environmental engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering. since the year of 2013, each grade has 7 classes (including geography base class). the 'geography base class' contains 3 different majors: 'natural geography and resource environment', 'human geography and urban and rural planning' and 'geographic information science'.

1. title: natural geography

course description: this course usesnatural geography(wu guanghe et al., 4th edition) as the textbook, mainly open for beginners of natural geography major and students of other majors in geography department. it introduces the position and role of natural geography in the system of geography science, the nature and characteristics of natural geography, and touches the basic theories and knowledge of such sub-disciplines as geomorphology, climatology, hydrogeography and phytogeography, etc.

2. title: geomorphology

course description: the primary purpose and basic requirement of this course is to teach the undergraduates to systematically master the fundamental theory and main working methods of geomorphology through classroom instruction and field practice. in a more detailed way, this course is designed to provide instruction that enables students to distinguish the main geomorphological types in the field, as well as the formation causes and distribution laws thereof. and to master the basic principle of judging the environmental evolution through geomorphology.

course description: this course is designed to provide instruction for students to grasp the basic laws of fluid balance and flow in various industrial units, to understand the velocity distribution , pressure distribution, energy loss and interaction between the fluid and the solid when the fluid steers by objects or flows through a channel. it aims at providing a solid theoretical basis for students to be engaged in related research, engineering application and practical operation in the future and enhancing their ability in analyzing and solving practical problems.

10. title: water pollution control engineering and experiment

course description: this course requires students to learn the fundamental theoretical knowledge, working principles and design calculation of various effluent treatment methods, such as physical treatment, biochemical treatment and physical and chemical treatment, with the purpose to help students grasp the concepts, basic principles and main design calculations of the three major methods of effluent treatment. it also aims to remind them to attach importance to the practice and innovation of environmental engineering design, and to boost their ability to analyze and solve practical problems.

11. title: groundwater dynamics

course description: the course groundwater dynamics primarily deals with the basic concepts, laws, equations and mathematical modelling and solution of groundwater movement. the basic concepts, laws, equations and mathematical modelling and solution of groundwater movement in porous media are mainly taught in various teaching forms, such as giving lectures, doing exercise, numerical experimentation, etc. this course also gives a systematic introduction to the movement of groundwater to the channel, the basic laws, characteristics, calculating formula and applicable condition of the steady and unsteady the movement of groundwater to the fully penetrating well, the partially penetrating well and the boundary well. in addition, it involves issues like methods of determining hydrogeological parameters under different conditions, groundwater movement in unsaturated zone, theory of hydrodynamic dispersion, etc.

12. title: hydrological and hydraulic calculation

course description: this course is a professional and major one that comprises hydrological analytical calculation and hydraulic calculation. it sheds light on both the theory and technical methods of engineering hydrological design, the principle and method of runoff and flood regulation calculation and hydroenergy calculation. the knowledge gained can be applied to tackle the engineering design problems during the planning, constructing and managing stage of hydraulic and hydropower projects, as well as to issues related to water resource planning and management of reservoir operation.
