King Mzilikazi II visits Ngozi Mine

King Mzilikazi II visits Ngozi Mine
Published: 11 January 2018 | by Mnqobi Ngwenya, Office of the King

The King for some time has wanted to visit the Ngozi mine community near Cowdry Park, close to Victoria Falls Road and Masiyephambili Drive, that is labelled as “squatters” or “illegal settlers” by  the local authorities . The King and his team came face to face with the reality of how this forgotten community is living.

The first stop was the dumping site for the rubbish where there is a presence of a permanent, heavy putrid smell. There were hundreds of people scavenging through the rubbish which the City of Bulawayo Lorries were offloading. There were other private Lorries who also came to unload their rubbish.

The people came and greeted the King, men, women, boys and girls some visibly school going age. INduna yeNkosi uBaba uMoyo told the team that the children go to school and when they come back from school they join their parents in sifting through the rubbish to pick up cans and plastic bags.

Most men were visibly intoxicated but they voiced their cries to the King that they are suffering and need help so as come out of this miserable situation.

The team was then led to uSobhuku of the area Mr Tshuma. The roads leading to the area have been blocked by the City Council so the team had to go in circles to try and get close to where Mr Tshuma lives. The team had to leave the car by the bush and walked a kilometre to get there. Mr Tshuma welcomed the team and quickly gathered a reasonable sized number of people who were busy going about their business.

King Mzilikazi II was given the platform to address the people. He told the people that he is not a politician who is coming to ask the people to vote for him because a King is not voted into office like politicians. Everyone in Mthwakazi is a son and daughter of the King regardless of political affiliation.

The King told the people that the purpose of his visit was to come and see for himself the condition his people are living under so that ways and means can be found to alleviate their situation. He urged people not to lose hope because there is a brighter future ahead and the people should love, respect, care for each other and be united. He encouraged the people not to look down upon themselves as they have equal worth with those whose lives are considered better than theirs.

King Mzilikazi II noted that his visit has made him aware that the people need clean water, toilets, clinic, shops etc. but might need to be moved away from the dumps to a safe place. Jobs will need to be created so that people can be gainfully employed and live normal lives like the rest of the people in society.

The people's hopes were raised and they appreciated the brief visit by the King and asked to take photos so as to remember this day.

The King thanked Mr Tshuma and all the other leaders of the Ngozi Mine Community before the team headed back to the City.
