umthwakazireview.com has been investigating the issue at Inyathi where several locals in the area have been indiscriminately attacked with machetes and stones and stabbed with knives by makorokoza thugs and gangs coming from Shurugwi who are popularly known as AmaShurugwi. The attacks are reportedly on a tribal basis with the fear that a tribal war is imminent in the area. It is reported that any Ndebele in sight has been fair game for these Shona gangs. Those found in leisure places such as night clubs are reported to have not survived the tribal and vicious onslaught.
A reliable source on the ground told umthwakazireview.com that the sporadic and indiscriminate incidents took place from the 9th to the 13th of January 2017. Two locals are reported dead and 9 survivors are Hopitalized at Inyathi Hospital while 1 has been hospitalized at iMpilo Hospital in Bulawayo with severe and long term injuries. The incident is reported to have happened at the Durban mine along the Litsheni Road, near the Veterinary turn off of the area.
These thugs and gangs are reported to have flocked into Nyathi for its abundant gold and ore after mines such as Auldmark suspended their mining operational activities in the area.
The gangs are reported to have strong links with the police, intelligence and top politicians and government officials. The reliable source who is based at Inyathi informed umthwakazireview.com that they have reliable information that someone was in the area today to collect gold on behalf of one of the Vice Presidents of Zimbabwe.
The informer was afraid to disclose who the Vice President is and had this to say, "People are afraid. AmaLeaders lawa kawasuthi iGolide. eMidlands sebeqede wonke amaMines" .
There has been reports that the army had been deployed in the area but the reliable source says that they have not seen the army yet but there are rumors going round that the army has been deployed. Several arrests are reported to have been made by the police but the reliable source reports that the strong links the gangs have with the security apparatus gives them cover and protection in most cases.
Inyathi is located 73 kilometres North of Bulawayo in Matebeleland North and falls under Chief Mtshane Khumalo. The MP for the area is one Clifford Cameroon Sibanda, a member of the ruling party Zanu PF.
The local community is reportedly looking up to the police to intervene but there is a growing resentment across Matebeleland against outsiders coming to exploit resources for themselves at the expense of locals. In 2016, the Matopo Community in Matebeleland South under the late Chief Masuku strongly and successfully resisted the take over of Maleme Farm owned by Peter Cunningham and locals by a top Robert Mugabe intelligence Officer, Mr Rodney Mashingaidze. The attempt to take this beneficial farm to the local community caused an uproar in Matebeleland and in the Matebeleland's Diaspora community and saw a unified action to resist the Farm's confiscation.
